Calypso Bar & Grill – Virginia Beach, VA

Calypso Bar & Grill is a lively oceanfront restaurant on the Virginia Beach boardwalk, offering a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.Students get to work steps from the beach while serving fresh seafood, drinks, and cocktails to a mix of locals and tourists. The atmosphere is energetic and fun, with live music and a vibrant coastal vibe. 

Virginia Beach, a coastal city in southeastern Virginia, lies where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. A 3-mile boardwalk stretches along its beach-lined oceanfront. The bayside First Landing State Park marks the 1607 arrival of the Jamestown colonists from England. The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center exhibits ocean life, including sharks, ray,s and sea turtles in globally themed habitats.

Weekly working hours: average 32 per week

Start Date/End Date: June 1st- July 15th, until September 1st-30th

Conditions: 

• Advanced English is required. 
• Must be able to start working according to the DS dates.
• Host: Greets and welcomes arriving guests, escorts customers to their tables or the waiting area, answers phone calls and customer inquiries, assists restaurant staff when necessary, maintains clean and organized tables, chairs, and dining sets, provides menu and server information / $15.00 per hour
• Busser: Clearing dirty dishes, glassware, and utensils from tables promptly and efficiently. Resetting tables with clean linens, silverware, and place settings for arriving guests. Ensuring tables are clean and sanitary between guests. Maintaining the cleanliness of the dining area by sweeping, vacuuming, and wiping down surfaces. Keeping condiment stands and busser stations stocked and organized. Cleaning and polishing tableware, including silverware and glassware. Emptying trash receptacles as needed. Assisting servers with delivering food and drinks to tables, especially during busy periods. Refilling water glasses and other beverages. Clearing plates between courses. Helping with additional tasks as needed, such as polishing silverware or folding napkins. May be required to assist with side work, such as cleaning restrooms, setting up dining areas before service, and tidying up after closing. May be required to work closely with kitchen staff to ensure a smooth flow of dishes. May be asked to help with special requests or accommodate specific needs, such as providing special silverware sets for families with young children. • Food Runner: Delivering food orders from the kitchen to customers’ tables rapidly and accurately. Acting as the point of contact between Front of the House and Back of the House staff. Communicating food orders to chefs and paying attention to priorities (e.g. food allergies). Assists servers and management to achieve a successful shift. Stocks replenish, retrieves, and supply. • Prep Cook: Chopping, slicing, dicing, and portioning vegetables, fruits, meats, and other ingredients. Marinating meats, making sauces and dressings, and preparing other components needed for dishes. Ensuring all ingredients are properly labeled, stored, and organized in the kitchen. Washing dishes, sanitizing work surfaces, and keeping the kitchen area clean and organized. Adhering to all food safety and sanitation guidelines to maintain a safe and healthy kitchen environment./ $15.00 per hour
• Dishwasher:  Washing dishes, silverware, glassware, pots, pans, and other kitchenware using dishwashers or by hand. This includes scraping, pre-rinsing, and proper loading and unloading of the machines. Keeping the dishwashing area clean and organized, including sweeping and mopping floors, emptying trash receptacles, and sanitizing surfaces. Ensuring that the kitchen and dining areas are stocked with clean dishes, utensils, and other supplies/ $15.00 per hour
• Training is provided by the employer at an hourly wage.
• The employer will provide a uniform. Please bring black pants, a black shirt, and non-slip shoes.

Housing and Transportation:

• Must arrange own, leads will be given.
• Typical transportation for the area is walking or biking.
