Company Description and Location: 

Denali National Park and Preserve surrounds Mt. McKinley (the largest mountain in North America) with over 5 million acres of wilderness. The Park is a natural home for dozens of wildlife species including Dall Sheep, Grizzly Bear, Black Bear, Wolf, Fox, Beaver, Moose, and Caribou.
The Park is located 120 miles south of Fairbanks and 240 miles north of Anchorage on the George Parks Highway. There are very few towns or facilities between these two major cities, and therefore, the Park area is somewhat isolated. Lodges, restaurants, gift shops, gas stations, convenience stores, and various other visitor-related services can be found spread out within a few miles of the Park entrance road. But with 5,000 visitors and 1,000 employees in the Park area each day.
Local activities include hiking and camping in and around the Park, wildlife viewing, flightseeing, jet boating, fishing, golfing, photography, river rafting, and the Park Service shuttle bus tours

Weekly working hours: avg. 32h per week

Start Date/End Date:  June 1st  – June 16th until September 20th

Conditions: 

  • Intermediate to Advanced English level is required;
  • Front Desk Agent: The Front Desk position duties include greeting guests, taking reservations, answering the phone, and customer service. Provide excellent customer service to guests and other team members Make sound judgments and anticipate issues and opportunities Handle comments, complaints, and concerns with a high level of efficiency and in the best interest of the guest Work closely with all other departments to ensure prompt service and overall guest satisfaction Ensure that guests’ special needs are met. Greet arriving/departing guests in a professional and pleasant manner. Be knowledgeable of daily functions or activities occurring at the lodge/hotel and in the Denali area in order to familiarize guests and answer their questions. Works closely with and facilitates information between Front Desk staff, housekeeping staff, Bell staff, and Food and Beverage staff to ensure that guest needs and information are communicated effectively / $14.00 per hour;
  • Barista: This job contributes to our coffee shop success by ensuring our service and standards are met. We do this by providing customers with prompt service, quality beverages, and products. You will assist with making beverages, and breakfast items, processing customer transactions at the point of sale, maintaining a clean environment, and any other tasks as needed.  All employees must provide excellent customer service to our guests. Employees must treat each other with courtesy and respect While working employees must follow all company policies and procedures/ $13.00 per hour; 
  • Busser/Host:  This is a great entry-level position to gain restaurant experience. This is a fast-paced, physically demanding position where you will earn good tips if you work hard, have a positive attitude, and are a team player. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and repeatedly serve and clear tables throughout the restaurant. You may also be support for the wait staff. It’s important to stay flexible and open-minded. There are times when your position may change from busser to host or food runner, depending on the needs of the establishment. As a busser, you will be responsible for clearing guest tables and re-setting them keeping pace with the flow and needs of the restaurant. Pre-bussing empty plates and glasses from tables, and maintaining a clean environment within the restaurant. Additional tasks may be assigned by your manager. As host, responsibilities include greeting guests, monitoring the open dining sections of the restaurant for empty and clean tables, estimating wait times for guests, managing the guest waiting list, and ensuring that the needs of the guests are met while they are waiting. A positive and assertive disposition goes a long way. Responsible for answering the telephone; booking reservations; and moving tables together to accommodate large parties. Host often communicates needs between managers, serving staff, bartenders, bussers, and guests, while maintaining an overall understanding of who is occupying where and what has been preset / $10.85 per hour;
  • Room Attendant: Duties will include but are not limited to cleaning rooms and common areas, including bathrooms, toilets, and showers, changing linens, laundry, dusting, vacuuming and emptying trash, etc. Very physically demanding. Be prepared to stand, bend, and push a 50lb/23kg cart all day. Requires attention to detail, punctuality, and a great service attitude & team spirit. / $15.00;
  • Paid hourly training;
  • The employer will provide a shirt. Must provide black pants, black non-slip, closed-toe shoes, black belt, black socks, and black undershirt if desired.;

Housing and Transportation:

  • Housing assisted by employer, at a cost of $105 per student, per week. A deposit of $200 will be paid to the employer upon arrival;
  • Transportation – Participants can walk to work or take the shuttle service provided for employees.
