Company Description and Location:
Dead Eye Dick’s at Payne’s Dock in New Harbor is open for lunch and dinner daily. Dead Eye’s eclectic menu offers the freshest seafood, including Dead Eye’s signature swordfish and lobster dishes. Open from May through September, diners can enjoy homemade soups, an extensive raw bar, creative cocktails, wine and microbrews in our casual dining room or outside on the deck overlooking New Harbor.
Block Island is located off the coast of Rhode Island, approximately 14 miles (23 km) east of Montauk Point, Long Island, and 13 miles (21 km) south from mainland Rhode Island, from which it is separated by Block Island Sound. It was named after Dutch explorer Adriaen Block.The island is a popular summer tourist destination and is known for its bicycling, hiking, sailing, fishing, and beaches. It also hosts two historic lighthouses: Block Island North Light on the northern tip of the island, and Block Island Southeast Light on the southeastern side. Much of the northwestern tip of the island is an undeveloped natural area and resting stop for birds along the Atlantic flyway.

Dishwasher : responsible for cleaning all dish ware and cookware for the restaurant, maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen, handling waste disposal. $10.50/hour with overtime available in July and August at $15.75/hour. Basic understanding/communication. No experience necessary. Must be willing to stand for long periods of time and work quickly and efficiently under pressure.
Prep Cook: preparing and portioning food for service per chef’s specifications. Must be comfortable using a knife, chopping vegetables, using a scale, following recipes. Basic kitchen/cooking knowledge is helpful. Position does not require English fluency, but must be able to understand chef’s instructions (Level 7 or above). $10.50/hour, overtime available July and August.**Prep Cooks and Dishwashers sometimes overlap, i.e. dishwashers will sometimes pick up prep shifts as they become comfortable in the restaurant.
Host/Food Runner:As host: Greeting and seating customers, answering phones, taking reservations, managing wait list, assisting in retail sales. Hosts work closely with manager on duty and must effectively communicate with waitstaff.As Food Runner: taking prepared food from kitchen and delivering to guests at assigned tables. Must communicate effectively with chef, waitstaff and customers. Must be willing and able to carry trays of food up and down stairs. $10.50/hour. Customer service experience a plus. Requires excellent English (Level 9 or above).
Dishwashers/Prep cooks require comfortable non-slip shoes. Hosts require business casual attire (no jeans). Food Runners must wear plain black clothes (their own clothes – tshirts are fine/pants or shorts are OK).
Housing and Transportation:
- Dormitory style housing in a few different locations, all of which are within walking distance to the job. 2-4 people per room, shared bathrooms on the floor. Housing is $85/week due every Thursday upon receipt of the check – it is not automatically deducted.
